So, instead of being responsible, I went to the Maryland Ren Fest today. It is huge. Huge with a capitical HUEG, as a lolcat might say.

The comedy routines that I was told were must-sees by my friends were so-so ish, but I got to gnaw on a roast turkey leg, lookit all the pretty pretty garb, and buy a stamped-coin bronze pendant. I was very tempted to buy one identical in pattern to the bronze pendant I bought Chris for Christmas way back when. (Phoenix on one side, Chartes Labyrinth on the other.) After much thought, I went with a 'Tree of Life' on one side and a cool supposedly norse lightning pattern on the other. Sure, I *could* have gotten a dragon, but...there will be more times later.

I'm still kinda wondering if I should have gotten Phoenix and Lightning. But I liked the combination of Tree and Storm. The symbolisms interlock well in my head, and mean something to me.

So. That was the Ren Faire. I should probably mention one more time how huge it was.

Envious! Despite coming from the UK ive never been to a Ren Faire, i guess because we dont actually have them here...I dunno i guess we dont celebrate our past as much as other people do!

I guess we have things like Morris dancing days, and (english) civil war re-enactment, but its not really the same as the fantasty style that ren-faires seem to have...i guess in the UK it would be regarded as too cheesy and unrealistic.

Shame, I really wanna see what one is like!

Let's say two and a half. While I don't engage in the communities, I do read a few comics, and given half a chance in roleplaying games, MUDs, etc, I gravitate toward the anthro characters. I'm definitey a Furry Sympathizer or something.

Eep! Im sorry for assuming then, I know its not a label that some people like, tho I kinda assume your a therian of sorts? Its nice to meet you and I hope you dont mind me jumping on your journal like this.

Im big into RP too, play alot of indie games and such, but I grew up on playing D&D :) Never got to play many anthro characters in tabletop games hehe.

Yeah, I'm therian-ish. Don't mind if I stay a bit close-minded. I like to hang out with a couple, at any rate.

Oooh, what kinda indie games? I've played DnD, of course, and a lot of Exalted and a little bit of a few other White Wolf games, but I'd love to expand my repetoire, as it were.

Yeah i am just a furry not a therian, I know alot too and they are decent folks, I find the spiritual angle facinating even if i have trouble feeling it myself.

Indie gaming wise I play things like Spirit of the Century - a pulp action game , Dogs in the vineyard - gunslinging preachers in the old west, and Prime time adventures - a game designed to run popular tv series lol! Among others...the thing i love about indie games is it breaks down the idea of having a GM who has sole control over the story, and makes for players making shit up about the plot/how scenes get resolved.

Kinda freaky at first but tons of fun! Exhalted Ive never tried...it sounds interesting, if it doesnt degenerate into power gaming. I love low power games where you are just trying to survive, it feels more real alot of the time.

...Dang. Those are some of the very games I'd love to be sinking my teeth into.

Exalted, unfortunately, is almost designed for power gaming..but if you played non-powered characters, Heroic Mortals, it can be very, very, gritty and a struggle to survive. At the Exalted level of play, though...yeah, power gaming. Lots of it. That's what I don't like about it so much. I love, love, love the setting.

Actually, there are a number of Exalted-in-SotC hacks on a forum that I regularly read.

SotC is alot of fun, its high powered but i dont think it supports power gaming style powers, its all rooted in being a normal guy who is amazingly good at doing normal things for silly effect.

Its terrific fun though, one of my fave systems right now. Mmm..I know how hard it is finding a good RP group, im just a lucky SOB to have met the kinda folks i love rping with here.

Still alot of those games are big in the USA, and you have some kickass cons there too...!
